Protest seeking prosecution of ex-PM Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh Photo: AP Protest seeking prosecution of ex-PM Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh Photo: AP Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Tuesday witnessed a massive protest march with thousands of people rallying at a 'March for Unity in a bid to mark the student-led widespread protest that led to the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
As per media reports, those who took part in the rally also demanded prosecution of Hasina and everyone else responsible for over a thousand deaths in the mass anti-government uprising.
On Tuesday, several student outfits from across the nation took part in the rally while carrying the national flag and chanting slogans against Hasina.
On August 5, the rule of Sheikh Hasina, the 76-year-old daughter of Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, came to an end after 15 years as she fled to an "undisclosed" location in a Bangladesh Air Force chopper after resigning as the prime minister amid deadly protests over a government job quota in the country.

The press office of the interim government said national consensus would be required to prepare a 'Declaration of the July Uprising' that will primarily focus on unity, state reform, and the broader goals of the uprising.
pay by phone casinoFollowing the govt's decision, the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) group that spearheaded the protests decided to call for changes to the country's 1972 constitution at the unity rally.
As per a Hindustan Times report, SAD said that a 'Proclamation of the July Revolution' was essential to honour the sacrifice of the protesters who died or were wounded, and to serve as a document reflecting the people’s aspirations.

What fuelled the protest in Bangladesh?The protests began in early July on a peaceful note with university students demanding to abolish quotas in civil service jobs, a third of which are reserved for relatives of veterans from Bangladesh’s war for independence from Pakistan in 1971.
Those criticising the quota had argued the system was discriminatory and needed to be overhauled. while their request was largely met, the protests soon transformed into a wider anti-government movement.

Hasina, now in self-imposed exile in India, faces murder charges in more than 100 cases. Many cases have also been registered against those associated with Hasinabonus365, her party or her government - from former ministers and judges to journalists and even prominent cricket player Shakib Al Hasan.
